ArcticDx’s Macula Risk NXG test helps calculate a patient’s risk
of progression to advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD).
Macula Risk® NXG is a prognostic DNA test that identifies patients at risk of progression to advanced AMD with vision loss.
SPECS The Macula Risk NXG test, intended for patients who have a diagnosis of early or intermediate AMD, is administered in-office through a simple cheek swab. By analyzing the complete combination of AMD genes and important non-genetic risk factors, including age, smoking history, BMI and AMD status, the Macula Risk NXG test calculates each patient’s risk of progression to advanced (dry or wet) disease within two, five, and 10 years. Coupled with heightened professional care and individualized disease management protocols, at-risk patients can be monitored and treated before significant vision loss occurs, resulting in improved clinical outcomes.
ADVANTAGES Macula Risk NXG offers the most complete combination of AMD genes, measuring 15 markers in 12 genes located within four major biological pathways. The test has been independently validated on more than 2,500 patients over a 10-year follow-up period, and is processed under Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations. The test is reimbursed by most insurance providers for patients with valid insurance and a diagnosis of early or intermediate AMD. There are no costs to the doctor for running the test.
At-risk patients identified through the Macula Risk NXG test may benefit from an increased frequency of eye examinations and diagnostic tests, disease education, at-home Amsler Grid testing, and eye vitamin therapy as recommended by the National Eye Institute’s AREDS and AREDS 2 studies.
EXTRAS AMD risk stratification, specifically through Macula Risk genetic testing, is essential to the evolving management of AMD in the Primary Eye Care Practice.
